NEW RELEASE: "Tell Me About
Him"
We could tell you a great deal about
the Dallas based newcomer, Rick Bernard James, however all he wants to do is
tell you about Christ. That message is
clear throughout this sophomore offering from Mr. James. While new to the national gospel music
scene, James independently produced his first gospel project entitled “Today” in
2002. However, we believe this
wonderfully diverse new project will capture the interest of the gospel
industry, and bring new attention to this gifted artist. This project ministers and entertains,
while reaffirming James' musical approach and love for the Lord, which is fresh
and uplifting. The 13-song collection includes everything from a fun children’s
sing-a-long, to an annointed-soulful hymn, to a funky, hip hop chant. There is truly something for everyone,
and something to tell somebody about!!
James wrote 9 of the 13 songs on the
project, and it is clear he has a penchant for writing thought provoking lyrics
with pleasant, memorable melodies. The disc is a pleasure to listen to from start to finish and tells a story,
that illuminates, exhilarates, emotionally provokes and certainly tells the
listener about a risen Savior. The project begins with “Don’t Leave Here The Same”, a smooth, jazzy groove
that urges the listener, not to leave the sanctuary with the cares brought in,
rather give them to Jesus. This is
followed up by the title track ‘Tell Me About Him’, which is musical story
telling at its best.
A beautiful and
engaging lullaby that gains momentum, before reaching a blissful crescendo that
will leave you wanting to know more about Jesus; and the remainder of the disc
doesn’t disappoint in providing just that!
“Something We Need”, is a melodious acoustic guitar piece proclaiming
JESUS is what we need.
James’ daughters are also showcased on
the infectious, sure to be children’s classic, “G.OO.D GOD”. This lively song will undoubtedly have
young and old alike, smiling and singing it’s very catchy hook;....and the girls
can really sing!!
"Praise Him In A New Way" follows and the hip/hop
generation will keep it krunked with this one.
Of course, this is after Grandma'nem have already enjoyed the timeless
hymn , "No Not One", that James and producer/arranger Arthur Dyer, fervently
deliver as a duet.
Each song builds on the previous, and
more than anything it leaves you wanting more.
James states, “I wanted each song to have poignant lyrics and a
definitive message that instructs and touches the soul”. Nowhere is this more evident than on the
thought provoking track, “The Scars Remind Me”, a deep and piercing song written
by James, and featuring national recording artist, Dabette Draper. Ms. Draper, a member of both God’s
Property and Myron Butler & Levi, gives a heartfelt performance of the
emotionally charged song. It is sure to have the listener praising God for what
He has seen them through.
The track “This Woman,” is a beautiful
and endearing tribute to the women in James’ life, and is reminiscent of an old
R & B classic.
Speaking of R & B
classics, James gives new life to Bobby Caldwell's memorable hit , “What You
Won’t Do For Love”.
He makes it his own
with some lyrical modifications, “What God Won’t Do for
Love”!! If you liked the original,
you’ll love this one with a deeper meaning.
We would tell you about, the anthem "The Human Spirit" or somewhere over
the "Rainbow", but we trust you'll want to hear for yourself, and then tell
everyone else!!!
The “Tell Me About Him” project was
produced by Stephen Lewis III, a talented, Dallas based producer, who has served
as both the musical director for Kirk Franklin and the Family, and keyboardist
for Fred Hammond.
Arthur Dyer, Xavier
Jackson, and Jason Robinson were also collaborating musical production
contributors.
Each of the tracks is
wonderfully crafted with precision, providing just enough creative
instrumentation to augment the delightful voice of James. Just as Rick Bernard
James wants to tell the world about Christ, you’ll want to tell the world about
this wonderful new project.
